More Maps!

So one of the hardest parts for me when reading, and writing, is often visualising where things are, where people are and then tying that into their surroundings and their movements in the story.

Which is where Campaign Cartographer 3+ comes in clutch, again. I've been scribbling away and it really helps to be able to just pull up an image and go, well to get here, X would go via Y route unless Z was happening and then they'd go that other route instead.

You'll notice that there's a lot of space that's empty and buildings that aren't labelled. I put this map of the Sect of Deepest Earth together as I was starting to write the story, and kind of flipped back and forth between the two at times when I was bring Meishen to new areas of the sect grounds. Places that she hasn't been to, or referred to yet aren't all pinned down for certain as to their purpose so I'm leaving myself the flexibility to add more later.

Some things are placed or labelled according to the needs of the fiction, some are more deduced. The village for instance, the sect needs labour and workers and they have to live somewhere, right? They can't necessarily go and fight beasts in the Groves for food or forage there, so then the village needs fields. Fields need roads around them to allow for the harvest to be transported, the harvest needs to be moved to somewhere for storage and processing so you'll need nearby buildings for this. Lo and behold, you've the little (magically extra-productive despite its small size) farm area at the south of the sect.

Over time, some of the details might change but the fundamentals of the Sect of Deepest Earth are already set. I hope this map helps anyone reading Peak Fiction (proper name still pending) make better sense of Meishen's trips up, down, across and over the grounds.
