To the Stars! And Back Again!

I've recently backed Sundered Isles on Kickstarter and the digital release was last week. I'm currently waiting on a print-on-demand copy of the two books involved but I've started playing a little already!

Sundered Isles is new supplement for a game called Starforged.

Starforged (also known as Ironsworn: Starforged, to give it its full name) a pen-and-paper TTRPG (TableTop Role-Playing Game) that doesn't require a GM. It can be played with one, but it's really intended to be played without as a co-operative sort of game, or even played solo!

I'm playing solo so far, and really enjoying it. My spaceship captain (guess the name, go on, guess it. And guess this particular human spacefarer's general appearance too. Hint. The Au Ra equivalent is plastered all over this site.) has thus far been sent to aid his commander's younger sister on a far-off academic planet, only to find that while the sister is in a bit of a bind, it's not what she wrote home about at all! The plot thickens!

My captain must now solve this new problem for her in order to fulfil the vow he swore on iron (hence the Ironsworn title) to his commander and so it goes. Given the element of dice-influence upon the fiction of the game, I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses from hereon out.

After this campaign, I'll be jumping headfirst into Sundered Isles though. I'm dying to try out the seafaring world it brings to life with Starforged's basic rules!

Away with the tides!

Obviously I'll be starting that game with a sailing version of my spacer captain but after that, who knows where the dice will take me! Sundered Isles even allows for the influence of twin moons, and a cursed die too! Ghost ships, cursed treasure, anything is possible! Can! You! Tell! That! I'm! Excited?! 😅

I've also been crafting up a storm of play accessories (of course) to accompany me on a my space voyages and sailing trips. Mostly just space themed so far, but also a quick little rules reference based on Traveller's Ironsworn (from here) and a set of themed stickers (see cricut-centric post here) for visual elements to add to my play notes.

I've picked up a cheapo bible case and added an HTV vinyl design to make it a TTRPG Kit case that holds my notebook, quick-reference book (once it arrives), cards, dice, pens etc., in one portable little package.

Then there's my golden nebula-themed card folder for Starforged which holds my character and tracker sheets on one side, ref cards on the other and the asset cards in front! It folds closed into a dinky parcel of info that I can dip in and out of as a lightning-fast check of character gear, challenge progress, rules, whatever I need really, all right at my fingertips.

The original idea comes from Traveller's Ironsworn of course, but that uses long, thin cards sized to fit a traveller's journal and I prefer the jumbo/oversized playing card size so I've rebuilt everything from Traveller's to fit my preferred size and aspect ratio, edited it all to cover Starforged's content better (Sundered Isles edit due soon too) and then printed, laminated and cut it all out for a complete, DIY, on-the-go way to play!

Now to play the months away until the official printed copies arrive from the Kickstarter, see you in autumn 😋 Fair winds guide ye!
